Guerlain LIDGE: reformulated? A 5-samples blind test.

Posted on November 24, 2013 by niten

L' Instant De Guerlain Extreme pour Homme (i.e. LIDGE), is the "Eau de Parfum
version" of L'Instant de Guerlain (LIDG), two men's fragrances contending the "Trophy of Rivalry" with "Dior Homme" highly-acclaimed twins. But let's face it, both Dior and Guerlain are excellent, and none is better than the other.
What we want to investigate about, however, is the (alleged) "LIDGE reformulation", which (allegedly) took place at an unspecified time, around 2011 or 2012. True or false ?

For this blind test, there are five different batches from 2009 to 2013, sprayed on the blotters, one for each year, and precisely:
-year 2009
-year 2010
-year 2011
-year 2012
-and finally, year 2013.
( to understand Guerlain batch numbers, see here )

RESULTS
It was -maybe- the easiest blind test ever made: the five blotters smell really identical. There is no significant difference between batches; the various samples may be confused one with another.

CONCLUSIONS
There is no appearance of "Reformulation", at least for the Eau de Parfum, and during the last five years. there are no differences between batches, at all: if some reformulation actually happened, it was handled in an excellent way.
There is no need to "check" batch numbers before buying, since any bottle on the shelf will be probably identical to any other bottle.
There is also no reason to pay big money for alleged "vintage" bottles, because, in hindsight, there is no difference between "vintage" and "modern" bottles.
Final note: similarly to "Dior Homme" and "Dior Homme Intense", the best option is to use LIDGE "on clothes" more than "on skin". When sprayed on fabric or textiles, LIDGE offers its best.

----------------------------------------------------------
