Quantifying the amount of a perfume.

Posted on November 26, 2013 by niten

Quantifying perfume inside bottles: a practical method.
You bought a perfume or a tester in a non-sealed bottle, or an "used" one.
Or you bought online a perfume sold as "new" and "mint", and you want to check it.
Is the perfume you bought really "new"? Or, if it's "used", how much perfume does it remain in the bottle?

When the bottle is transparent, there are no difficulties: simply you can see through the bottle, and have an idea if the bottle is full, half-full, or empty. It's very simple.
But sometimes it's a very difficult task, when you have an opaque, non-transparent bottle. How can you determine or quantify the amount of a scent?
There are two main ways:
-See through a light bulb.
-Weighing: you have to determine the weight of the bottle.
Since the "weighing" method is difficult, it's better to give a try with the first method: you need a light bulb, and sometime a potent light to see through..
Simply put your perfume exactly in front of a light bulb, awitch off any other light behind you, and try to see through. The more the lighting power, the more the chances to see through.
Shake the bottle to see the juice! Can you see it? it's important to shake the bottle, in order to clearly see the "amount". Check the pictures below.

This is a qualitative more than quantitative method, but unfortunately, sometime is really impossible to see through the bottle.
Next time we'll examine the other method: weighing the bottle.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(vedi fotografie).
